I am a Yorkshire-based artist specialising in ink and watercolour. Typically, my focus is on North Yorkshire’s beautiful landscapes, especially the distinctive fishing villages along the East coast.

I have been lucky enough to receive kind feedback suggesting my style is direct, bold and distinctive. Through the use of certain techniques, I am able to achieve a lot of granulated texture within my watercolours, which is always welcome and one of the benefits of the watercolour medium.

My art story began during the pandemic. Lockdown provided me with a bit more spare time and, like many others, I thought it a good time to try a new hobby. In my naivety I decided on watercolour and so a very challenging and perilous journey began!

About 6 months later, while finding my way, I stumbled across the technique of ‘line and wash’ which turned out to be a turning point for me. Everything made a bit more sense to me in line and wash and I felt this approach complimented my natural style. With continued practice, I have noticed that my work has developed a more illustrative quality and I am drawn to more detailed and complex scenes. I really enjoy adding little details and creating these scenes and I hope you enjoy viewing them too.

All my work is painted on Arches Aquarelle Rough 300gm 100% cotton paper.

I use Schmincke Horadam artist quality watercolours.

All my paint brushes are locally handmade by Rosemary & Co., which I can highly recommend.
